INCREASING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE PHILIPPINES ELECTRONICS AND SEMICONDUCTOR INDSUTRY
Virtual Seminar on Microelectronics and Semiconductor Technology

As Electronics is the top export in terms of commodity groups in the Philippines, the government, business partners, and academia collaborate to increase the competitiveness of the Philippines electronics and semiconductor industry through integrated circuit (IC) and system design. In view of this, the University’s Microelectronics laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology organized the “Basic IC Design Training”, sponsored by Synopsys, Advanced Computing Solutions (ACS), CAMP Incorporated. This extension project is part of the Center for Integrated Circuits and Devices Research (CIDR) Project activities in the proliferation of microelectronics education in Visayas/Mindanao region and international university collaboration with NTPU. The main purpose of this training is to tap all schools, universities, and colleges in Visayas and Mindanao to engage in Microelectronics and to collaborate with MSU-IIT in the building of microelectronics programs in their school or universities. This basic IC design training solves the existing problem of lack of IC designers in the Philippines. The entire basic IC design training, which lasted for 5 Saturdays, involved exchanging of knowledge and sharing of expertise. Among the lectures conducted were:
