Organic Farming to Improve Security for Barangay Rogongon's Farmers

As part of this project, local farmers participated in various training sessions, including a seminar focused on crop diversity, with emphasis on companion planting. The seminar delved into the advantages and disadvantages of companion planting, guiding farmers in identifying plants suitable for intercropping to maximize benefits. Another seminar was conducted which addressed natural approaches to pest issues, emphasizing the efficacy of Organic Pest Management. The participating local farmers learned about the different plant pests, the principles of integrated pest management, and the application of natural solutions to address pest challenges. A further seminar and workshop were conducted on modern agriculture, specifically focusing on hydroponics. Local farmers participating in the event were introduced to various hydroponic systems and received instruction on operating basic tools and equipment, highlighting the Kratky Method.

The Department of Science and Technology-Lanao del Norte (DOST-LDN), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Innovation through Leveraging Industry, Government, Academe Networks, and Inclusive Community Engagements (ILIGANiCE) team with Prof. Jinky P. Bornales as program lead have implemented a series of initiatives to empower the Iligan City community. This involved providing the Sikyop Agriculture Cooperative with cutting-edge equipment for Taro Chips and Tanglad Juice Processing. 

BAKING PROSPERITY IN THE COMMUNITY
Baking Training dubbed as Learn and Earn Pilmico's Baking Way

The WE CARE Office conducted four batches of baking skills training for selected barangays in Iligan City, including Acmac, Palao, Luinab, St. Elena, and Mahayahay.

The Pilmico Bakers Iligan, a joint effort between Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and Pilmico Foods Corporation, is a sustainable livelihood project aiming to empower beneficiaries through baking skills. Supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan Inc. and ILIGANiCE, the program enabled 60 women and 20 bakers from 8 MSMEs to learn the Pilmico baking method.

Following the training, participants launched their own pastry businesses, while others enhanced their existing bakeries.
